Minister Rick Warren (pastor of the Saddleback church in California and author of the top selling book "The Purpose Driven Life." ) delivered the invocation at Barack Obama's inauguration. The selection of Warren for the prayer was initially met with a lot of criticism from those who do not agree with his stance against same-sex marriage. President Obama also opposes same-sex marriage, but does support civil unions.
Some say Warren's address was "emotional, inclusive, and unapologetically Christian". Personally, I think regardless of your religious affiliation, Min. Warren asked God for all the things this country needs and our new President needs; "the wisdom to lead us with humility, the courage to lead us with integrity and the compassion to lead us with generousity" -- and regardless on who you serve, I'm sure everyone can agree on the principles behind this prayer, even if not with the verbage.
