The film, "Mama I Just Want to Sing" starring Ciara Harris and Lynn Whitfield, set to hit theaters October 2008, has just released promotional pictures during production via BlackFilms.
The all-star cast includes: Ciara, Lynn Whitfield, Patti LaBelle, Juanita Bynum, Hill Harper, Ben Vereen, Billy Zane, Kim Porter, Ralph Tresvant, Ross Francis, Shonda Farr.
With those big names, it should be a shoe-in at the box office, but we'll have to just wait and see. The flick follows the same feels as Dreamgirls, Rent & Chicago -- bringing Broadway to the silver screen. The movie portrays a preacher's daughter (Ciara), who rises from the church choir to international pop superstardom. Isn't this is the same synopsis as "The Gospel" with sexy as he wants to be Boris Kodjoe?? Hmmm....
I'm definitely eager to see how this one plays out but I am sure not interested in a 2 hr song and dance with mediocre acting -- that's for sure. I'm hoping for big things from this though ( I love me some Lynn Whitfield ever since "A Thin Line...")
